Kanaki is a small village in Korba district of Chhattisgarh.

Actually, this temple is said to be around the 13th century.

But the Archaeological Department has not confirmed this, you get to see beautiful carvings and figures on the walls and door frames of the temple like the archaeological temples Tuman, and Pali.

The temple has the status of a protected temple by the Chhattisgarh Archeology Department.

 

Story of Kankeshwar Mahadev temple -Kanki Dham

Well, many stories related to this temple are famous.

But you will find one story quite popular and interesting here which is told according to this story.

A cow used to go to this place to offer milk to the Shivlinga.

Later, the cowherd saw her and hit the place where the milk fell with a stick, and from there came a breaking sound.

Kanaki or rice grain was broken at that place.

When the temple was cleaned, a Shivlinga was found there due to which a temple was built here, and due to being near Kanaki or rice grains, it was called Kanakeshwar Mahadesh Temple and this place came to be known as Kanaki.

That’s why when you go here, you will see that people offer rice grains to Shivalinga.

Migratory birds of Kankeshwar Mahadev temple -Kanki dham

Apart from this temple, Kanaki is also famous for migratory birds.

Every year, birds called Asian Open Bill Stork or Ghonghila (Little Carmorantus), waterfowl come here from South East Asia mainly Sri Lanka and South India after the 15th of May till the arrival of the monsoon.

Then they go back from here from the last week of October to the initial week of November.

About 2500 birds come here every year.

How to reach Kankeshwar Mahadev temple -Kanki dham

Kankeshwar Mahadev is in Kanaki village of Korba district of Chhattisgarh.

which is at a distance of 20 kilometers from Korba, 70 kilometers from Bilaspur, and about 200 kilometers from Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh.

To reach here, the nearest airport is in Bilaspur and nearby. The railway station is in Korba and Kankeshwar Dham can be easily reached by reaching Korba by bus.
