Khutaghat Dam is also a picnic spot and a tourist destination during the rainy season, and if you want to feel freshness and peace,  you must visit khutaghat Reservoir at least once.

But khutaghat Dam has many trekking routes. Thousands of tourists also visit it every year. 

 

History of the Khutaghat Dam. 

 khutaghat Dam is after the name of Sanjay Gandhi. It was completed in  1930.

However, They cost around Rs 6,563,097.

Sanjay Gandhi Reservoir is called khutaghat Dam.

It is about 208 villages were built to build this dam.

You can guess how big this dam will grow. 

 During the construction of this dam, there was a forest with many trees and plants.

During the construction of the dam,  the trees were submerged because they were not cut down.

Due to being in the water, this tree turned into a stump and became so strong that it hurt upside down when cut with an axe. 

 The name of Sanjay Gandhi reservoir is khutaghat Dam because it is called “khunta” in the local language of Chhattisgarh. Even now, people around the dam cut down trees and make sticks to keep as a memento. 

In the middle of this dam is a temple to Lord Shiva which can only be reached in summer and at other times this temple is filled with water. Boat rides are also held here from 9 am to 4 pm.

 Best time to visit the Dam 

 You can visit the Dam at any time, but if you’re feeling adventurous you should go during the rainy season. 

So The joy of watching a dam overflow is something else.

Swimming in the dam is strictly prohibited and it is said that the dam is home to crocodiles.

The dam is only 7 km from Ratanpur. It can be there by the Bilaspur-Ambikapur highway. 

 

 Accommodation  

 Basically, You can visit the Dam for a few hours and come back, but plan to come and stay from outside, but the Chhattisgarh government has built a Tourist resting place over the dam.

This Dam also brings peace and joy to your mind and heart as you climb the steps to the dam. 

 You will love the sites there.

During the rainy season, when the water overflows over the dam, it will feel like a waterfall.
