Tamor Pingla Sanctuary is on the northern border of Chhattisgarh state, on the border of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand states. 

This sanctuary is in the Surguja district of Ramkola village.

North of the Sarguja forest circle comes under the Sarguja forest circle.

Tamor Pingla Sanctuary

Presently a zone Tamor Pingla is under it whose headquarters is Ramkola. 

The sanctuary area is the catchment area of Rehand/Rand River which is a major tributary of Son River.

The origin of many subsidiary rivers of Rand is from this sanctuary.

The name of this sanctuary is on the name of Tamor and Pingla reserved forest blocks.

The total area of the sanctuary is about 608 sq km.

The sanctuary was formed in 1978 under section 18 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.

 

Weather Tamor Pingla Sanctuary

The sanctuary has a temperate and heat form of weather with warm and dry summers and quality to chill winters.

The average rainfall is 1304mm and the common annual temperature is 24. 3 ranges Celsius.

Geography and History of Tamor Pingla Sanctuary

The northern boundary is the Moran River boundary Bonga Nalla, and the western boundary is the Rihand River.

This changed notified as Wildlife Sanctuary in 1978.

In 2011, it changed notified through Chhattisgarh`s Government as part of Surguja Jashpur Elephant Reserve.

There are seven sales villages inside this sanctuary, particularly Khond, Injani, Archoka, Durgain, Kesar, Chattauli, and Dhaulpur.

Except for Khond, those villages are very small, with much fewer than 20 households.

The Tamor Hills, having a place of 250 km2, is a desk land growing sharply from the neighboring villages of Tamki, Ghui, and Barpetia.

Flora of Tamor Pingla Sanctuary

The area, that is beneath neath Tamor, Khond, and Pingla Ranges of the Surguja Jashpur Elephant Reserve Forest Division, includes sal and bamboo forests.

 

Fauna of Tamor Pingla Sanctuary

Spread over 608. fifty-five km2 (234. ninety-six sq mi), the sanctuary helps Asian elephant, Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, bears, sambar, nilgai, chital, bison, chousingha, chinkara, muntjac, boar, dhole, wolf, jackal, hyena, hare, cobras, pythons, pink jungle hen, grey jungle hen, and pigeon.

Devi Jhariya (Ramkola) 

Devi Jhariya is on a hill in the south direction of Ramkola village.

A water source flows from the mountain ranges at this Devi place.

This water source falls under the hill near the Devi Sthan.

The goddess here is by the name of Pingla the people.

Pingla River is after the name of Pingla Devi.

There is a movement of devotees throughout the year to enjoy the beauty of this place and to see the Goddess.

Devi Jharia is situated at about 35 kms in the western direction on the number 11 mode on the Avantikapur-Wadrafnagar road.

Rehand River 

The origin of the Rehand / Renuka River is from the Matringa hill of district Surguja which is in the Lakhanpur forest area.

On this river, near the village of Tamki, a waterfall is which is known as Lafri Ghat.

There is a reservoir of a waterfall here.

The dense forest is spread far and wide around this site.

25 km from the site on the western boundary of the sanctuary.

Till forest area comes in Tamor Pingla Sanctuary and some areas of Gurughasi Das National Park.

Ambikapur to Village Ramkola P.W.D. 15 km on the route Is at a distance.

Village Injani from Ramkola, Tamki forest road which passes through the middle of the sanctuary is a place to visit.

Moran / Morni’s river

The Moran River determines the northern boundary of the Tamor Pingla Sanctuary.

After leaving the Manipur forest block, it starts demarcating the boundary of the sanctuary from the northeast of Bonga village and forms a confluence with the Rehand River near Chhatauli village. Its length is about 50 km on the sanctuary border. Is. In this length, there is a picturesque forest area on both sides. This river passing through the dense forest area creates a beautiful view of many places. From Ramkola to Raghunath Nagar Van Marg is an easily accessible route, the length of which is 16 kms. Is.

Kundru Ghagh 

The waterfall is called Ghaghi in the local dialect of the Surguja district.

Kudrughagh is a beautiful waterfall of medium height, 10 km from Ramkola, in the Pingla River which flows through the heart of the sanctuary.

This waterfall is surrounded by dense forest on both sides.

Chhindgarh 

There is a place Chhindgarh in room number 824 in the plains of Tamor Hill of Tamor Pingla Sanctuary.

Here a 50 feet high watch tower has been constructed by the department, by climbing which one can observe the beautiful natural scenery spread far and wide. The game range is 20 kms from headquarters. It can be reached here by reasoning.

Elephant Camp Dhuriyao

Civil Bahadur among the wild elephants caught by the department who was receiving training at a place called Chandra village (Lalmati) near Ambikapur.

Lali Hathini was brought from Panna National Park to be taken to the sanctuary, and “Lali” and “Civil” Bahadur were brought to the Dhurion camp of the sanctuary.

Lali became pregnant from the Rambahadur elephant of Panna National Park, and after coming to Dhuriyan camp gave birth to a female child in the month of April 2000. Which was named Durga. Durga’s father’s name is Ram Bahadur.

Sarugarh and Dhoba

It is in room numbers 818 and 836 respectively on the Tamor Hill of the sanctuary.

The area is with thick sal trees.

“Gaur” resides in this area.

Here a 50 feet high watch tower is also there by the department.

by climbing one can observe the picturesque natural views of Tamor Hill spread far and wide.

Village Bhelkachch

On reaching Tamor Hill, there is such a place where tourists can stand and see the panoramic view of the village Bhelkachchh from a height of hundreds of feet.

Bengchi Patthar 

15th kilometer of the Ramkola-Janakpur forest road which passes through the central part of the sanctuary.

But in room number 932 of Pingla forest block, on one peak of the hill, a frog is naturally seen on the rock, and on the other peak, the rock looks like a snake, it seems that the snake is trying to catch the frog.

Ghat Pendari 

On Ambikapur-Varanasi highway under Pratappur forest range of North Surguja Forest Division.

So, There is a lot of climbing or trekking in Ghat Pendari, but now the path here has become easy due to the construction of the Ghat cutting and well road.

By Rail

Surajpur station is the nearest railhead from the sanctuary at a distance of 35km.

 

By Plane

The closest airport is in Ranchi, Jharkhand, approximately 80km from the sanctuary.

 

By Road

However,  the sanctuary isn`t very well-links with the main towns directly.

But there are some routes from Surajpur, Ambikapur, Bishrampur, Ranchi, and Varanasi from in which you’ll be able to avail of non-public and public transport.

Note: Drive carefully, as most incidents take here.
